Insta Spanish - Virtual Classroom, Forum, and Podcast

Membership Login Changes

I'm still battling to find time to work on the websites - but I did manage to get some time this week and looking over the stats, I see that a lot of people have had trouble figuring out how to access the Members Zone. The combination of Joomla and Moodle appears to be too complicated - so I found a much easier membership program that allows people to login and access everything in just 1 click - with the classes still in Moodle, but part of that system instead of Joomla.

I had to reset all passwords for previous members that joined the paid subscription service before today - you'll see that information on the Members Zone page. Please note this does NOT affect the FORUM logins - which is a free service. The Members Zone is a paid service that offers software programs and classes, whereas joining Insta Spanish as a free member just gives you the ability to post on our forum. To post on the forum, for now you'll need to login to the main page at Insta Spanish with your same old login. Other than that you should just find the new system a lot easier to navigate. I'll be attacking the Moodle course next - filling out the Beginning Spanish through Music section. I hope to get a newsletter done this weekend as it's been a while!

I'm sorry to anyone who has emailed in the past week - we went into labor late last week and had the baby this weekend, spent a few days in the hospital, then a few days trying to adjust to life with a toddler and a newborn! I'll be answering emails today, and if there are problems I'll try to solve them as quickly as possible. Thanks so much for your patience during this time.

New Spanish teaching video podcast up!

E-mail Print PDF

We finally have a new newsletter and podcast up - with just a couple of weeks before the new baby arrives, I've been a bit in overdrive this week :)

I'm adding a new the format for these newsletters - a video slideshow that will be available only to subscribers of the Members Zone. The quizzes will be part of our online system within each slideshow, so that you can track your progress - and there will be an archive of all video newsletters, as well as downloads for each one. As this is a lot of work I can only offer this service to subscribers of the $9.99 a month service - but the non video newsletter will continue to be free. This weeks' edition is a freebie! To see the interactive video newsletter for this week, click here or on the image below.

new videos up in Beginning Spanish through Music class

E-mail Print PDF

We've been working away at the online class for Musical Spanish in the Members Zone - thanks to some help from Antonio in Brazil, we've got quite a few new videos online, and the course is coming along nicely. I'm trying to create videos that help the student as much as possible as they go through the chapter, so that the grammar elements are easier to learn.

If you're a member you should really check it out - we'll be adding all of the quizzes and activities after the teaching videos, but we're plugging away each day so you'll find new stuff up constantly. Afterwards I am going to create an outline of the course with approximate times that it might take the average student to go through the material.

For anybody wondering what the difference is between the Musical Spanish elearning course and the self study one - the difference is that you have sort of a virtual teacher taking you through the material, lesson by lesson. Before each lesson we outline objectives or things to look and listen for - and after you go through the song and lesson pages, you get a lesson recap to make sure you learned the elements. The videos are animated, and hopefully give you a sense that you're not trying to learn all this stuff on your own. The activities and quizzes will both help you reinforce what you've learned, and help you track your progress.

Here's a screenshot of our work in progress:

Back after Break!

E-mail Print PDF
Hola guys - I'm sorry it's been a few weeks since I've been on the website - I've been taking it pretty easy lately as I'm now in my 3rd trimester, with a baby girl due in mid Sept - and as I had a little trouble w/ my first pregnancy at around this time, I'm being extra cautious and doing a lot of resting (not easy with a 16 month old running around :) It's also summertime in Alaska which means outings to places like Seward this last week - where it was very beautiful but I also managed to get plenty seasick. I see people are wondering about the chat - that is something I can certainly bring back - I'll take a look at which systems are compatible with the upgraded system ok? I also need to get back to work on the courses for the Members Zone - the Paypal trial system should be working just fine now - and the Amazon option will be back shortly. Sorry for the delays but lately I've been lucky to get 1 hr of work in a day. Help in the form of my suegra is arriving shortly, however - and I can get this stuff wrapped up as well as the newsletters started again in time for the "back to school" period in August. I hope you're all enjoying a nice summer!
